Tuesday 16th September - walks ****** – Felixstowe and Pin Mill – sunny periods.

Mags 65th Birthday:)

Walk 1 – Sunrise Felixstowe prom.

After staying up to midnight last night to post 65 pics for 65 years on Facebook to celebrate Mags big day we were a little woosey first thing but still managed a short prom walk to catch the sunrise with a good breeze blowing, luckily it was offshore so we were fairly sheltered for the most part! Then home to do our word puzzles and Mag begin to thank people for the many Birthday wishes, she also got a nice bouquet of flowers from an old friend. As a surprise I had booked a table at The Butt and Oyster at Pin Mill so pretended to pack a picnic, made a flask and we left Felixstowe just after eleven.

Walk 2 – Woolverstone to Pin Mill.

We parked in the lane leading to Woolverstone Marina to start the walk down to Pin Mill which is lovely as we pass the church, the large house of the private school through fields of sheep and into the woods with wild flowers still in bloom with some top clouds whizzing overhead with a good breeze from the west blowing but we seemed to be sheltered a lot of the time! We got our first view of the River Orwell with the tide low and still going out and it was warm when the sun was out, at Pin Mill we walked along a concrete walkway out into the Orwell to see a large group of swans and were surrounded by all sorts of craft from yachts to old barges! We continue into the National Trust plantation to see the famous boat graveyard before returning to the picnic area on the small green at Pin Mill to find a bench, Mag still thinks for a picnic, when she opens the rucksack she finds empty picnic boxes, then the penny drops as she realizes we will being having lunch at the pub! We get a table near the bar and can see the river out of the window opposite and for a Tuesday it is fairly busy. Mag has her favourite pulled pork while I go for large fish and chips which is far too much so will get a smaller meal next time as we are not used to eating a large meal at lunchtime! We had a lovely waitress and the bill was reasonable too but were were far too full as we left Pin Mill taking the footpath along the Orwell leading to Woolverstone Marina, it is a long drag up the hill back to the van which was a struggle with my heel playing me up:( Back at the van we had a cuppa and Mag opened the presents I had got her, I had a doze before returning to Felixstowe – what a top day it was too, great fun was had by all:)
